I have mentioned that I am making my debut with my photography at the Adams County Arts Council’s Annual Holiday Show.  I haven’t mentioned the amazing company that I am keeping in that show.  I am humbled to have my work next to the work of so many talented, seasoned artists from this area.

Some of the local artists participating in the show will also be offering free demonstrations of their work to the public throughout December.  The show kicks off today with a “First Friday” celebration and demo by potter Jack Handshaw, and festivities continue on Saturday, December 7 with demonstrations by Sharon Birch and Charlotte Yealey.

At 10 a.m., Sharon Birch will demonstrate her technique with small acrylic paintings.  Inspired by mid-century graphic artists such as Jim Flora and Mary Blair, Sharon’s eclectic body of work is often inspired by simple shapes and basic representations of objects and animals.  During her presentation, she will demonstrate how to combine traditional acrylic paint with spray paint and paint markers, how to use stencils, and how to mount finished pieces on wood panels.

Sharon Birch and Charlotte Yealey are two of the mixed media and visual artists who will be featured at this year’s Holiday Show, which will display and sell pieces from Friday, December 6 through the end of the year at the Adams County Arts Education Center, 125 S. Washington Street, Gettysburg.  Other visual artists featured in the show include Marie Alexandrov, Erin Brown, Anne Finucane, Robert McCloskey, Deborah Nell, Tom Rooney, Mary Smith, Amy Svec, Linda Toomey, Debbie Westmoreland, and Marti Yeager.

If you are in the area, include the ACAC’s Holiday Show as one of your holiday events and shopping destinations.  Art is a unique and thoughtful gift, and at least thirty percent of the proceeds from the show will support the ACAC. For more information about the Holiday Show, artist demonstrations, upcoming exhibitions, art classes, and other news and events at the Adams County Arts Council, visit www.adamsarts.org or call (717) 334-5006.

The Adams County Arts Council’s mission is to cultivate an arts-rich community.
